At a colourful ceremony held at Den Gamle By (The Old Town), Aarhus, Denmark the results of the XXIII Luigi Micheletti Award was announced.


LUIGI MICHELETTI AWARD 2018 was presented to CHAPLIN’S WORLD BY GRÉVIN, Coursier-sur-Vevey, Switzerland. The name of Charlie Chaplin is known throughout the world, and his life can be divided into three sections. He was born into poverty in the East End of London in 1889 and abandoned with his half-brother, later earning a living as a vaudeville artist. After emigrating to the U.S. at the age of 21 he became a worldwide icon, considered to be one of the most important figures in the history of the film industry. LUIGI MICHELETTI AWARD 2017 goes to the GPO WITNESS HISTORY VISITOR CENTRE, Dublin, Ireland. The General Post was seized by Irish rebels as the seat of the Provisional Irish Government. On Easter Monday 1916 the rebel leader Patrick Pearse read the Proclamation of Independence from its steps. 

The GPO was the centre of the battle between the Irish and the British in that year, and was destroyed by shelling by the British.
This led to a bitter war of independence and a partitioned Ireland. On the centenary of the uprising and as part of the commemorations a Visitor Centre was constructed which is both a cultural venue and a history museum, with personal stories, eyewitness accounts and historical artefacts. ...

At a ceremony held in the Museum of Industrial Production of Olive Oil, one of the nine museums runned by the Piraeus Bank Cultural Foundation, Den Gamle By (Aarhus, Denmark) was announced as the winner of the 2016 Luigi Micheletti Award. The trophy was presented to the museum’s director, Thomas Bloch Ravn, by Karl Murr, President of the EMA Panel of Judges. Representing the Luigi Micheletti Foundation was René Capovin. 

The judges said that Den Gamle By is a pioneering institution in the museological handling of the pressing social questions of our time.
